Lease Extension

Renew the Lease of a Flat

A leaseholder who has been a qualifying tenant of a flat for the last two years has the right to acquire a new lease for a term of 90 years at a peppercorn rent on payment of a fair premium. On the death of a qualifying tenant the right can be exercised by his personal representative. A qualifying tenant of a flat with a short lease, who wants to sell his flat, can avoid buying a lease extension himself by assigning his right to the buyer. We can:

  • Tell you if you qualify for a lease extension
  • Draft all legal notices
  • Give you a desk top estimate of how much it may cost to extend the lease
  • Advise you about the terms of the new lease
  • Make all necessary applications to the LVT and the county court.
